A Memoir of a Nail and Who Shaped It…

I’ve heard it said some folks are born with a silver spoon in their mouths. I on the other hand was born with an emery board in my hand. At an early age I had a fixation on my naturally occurring long nails. Unlike Barbra Streisand, I passed typing with those long nails. When I graduated in 1968 from Windsor Locks , I wasn’t remembered in the class will for the navy blue tennis sweater or scooping ice cream at the local Friendly’s, picking shade tobacco or passing four years of Latin . Instead the 1968 Class Will of Windsor Locks High School read that “(she) left with her long ,white frosted fingernails”. (Revlon was my choice). For 74 years I have been filing away those stories long after I left those long white frosted fingernails behind in Windsor Locks.. Now 57 years after, I wish to revisit those historical pages of the one sided Main Street and change that dialogue with FILED AWAY, MY NAIL ENCOUNTERS. How did a kid from immigrant parents go from being a shade tobacco picker in the Connecticut River Valley fields to shaping not only the nails of rich and famous but to mystical experiences in the Land of Enchantment? In the early 90’s in Santa Fe, NM, Astrologer, Ariel Guttman, author of Venus Rising Star, director and founder of Sophia Venus, gifted me a reading of my chart. She pointed to my chart to show me that my life journey late in life would bring me to writing about this. After surviving breast cancer, the COVID pandemic and closure of my 31 year old Santa Fe business there was no better time than now to begin.
